Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation

Foundation can be tricky.  You have to find the right shade to blend seamlessly into your own skin tone, the right finish and for my skin in particularly one that doesn't look ashy, pink, red and make my hyperpigmentation look more pronounced.  I first tried the BB Natural Finish Foundation and thought I'd found my staple foundation.  Nope..it oxidized turning my yellow golden skin orange, absorbed too much oil AND moisture from my skin.  The idea of this foundation was nice, but in reality it just didn't work for me.  I switched to BB Skin Foundation and have finally found my perfect match.  A foundation that looks like second skin and I LOVE it.  I prefer my foundation to look as natural as possible, even like I'm not wearing any.  The Golden shade does not oxidize and add's even more glow to my skin.  I love to glow, from my L'oreal Dark Spot Corrector serum, Murad Radiance Peel and Essential C Toner lol.

Back to this fabulous foundation:
  • Looks like skin, not makeup
  • Weightless feel and look
  • Evens skin tone, minimizes pores, conceals imperfections
  • Light liquid like consistency
  • Broad spectrum SF 15
  • Hydrating on skin & for all skin types!
I dot on the back of my hand and apply with Sonia Kashuk flat top brush for a airbrushed look.  I experienced absolutely NO breakouts,  irritation, white cast, and oxidizing.

Foundation for Women of Color

Foundation for Women of Color

Foundation for Women of Color by ladyjskincare on polyvore.com

I have gone through the frustration of finding a foundation that suits my skin.  Most cosmetics company's foundations, concealers and power's have a pink or beige undertone and are not suitable for ethnic skin tones, giving a unnatural and ashy appearance.  Here are MY top picks for women of color.   These brands cater to women of color, with yellow, red and blue undertones.

  1. Bobbi Brown is my personal favorite!  My shade:6 Golden.  Foundations are very natural and look like second skin.
  2. Giorgio Armani
  3. Nars  My shade: Tahoe
  4. Mary Kay
  5. Iman
  6. Black Up, Frances #1 Ethnic makeup brand, now available in the USA.  Yellow base, matte, full-coverage foundation. My Shade: FM01.
  7. Face Atelier
  8. Illamasqua
  9. Milani has affordable bronzers & blush!

Product Shout Out! Bobbi Brown Face Touch Up Stick

Great for on the go touch ups, Bobbi Brown touch up stick conceals imperfections, acne scars, blemishes and redness.  Awarded InStyle Best Beauty Buy in 2011, this concealer/foundation is a great find at $23.  I personally love Bobbi Brown cosmetics, because her foundation and concealer are yellow based.  This makes for a more natural look.  I apply where I need coverage and PAT in & blend with my fingers.  Bobbi Brown is the ONLY cosmetic line that carries a shade (golden) that almost perfectly matches my skin tone!  Powder is a must to set this product.
.08 oz $23 available at Nordstrom & Bobbi Brown.
  • Creamy full coverage formula.
  • Suitable for cheeks, chin, nose and forehead.
  • Great for normal & combination skin types.

    Review: Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick

Because I am a makeup fiend and I love trying new products..I am constantly looking at foundations.  A girl can have more then one favorite foundation!  I was walking aimlessly through the mall when I came across the Bobbi Brown makeup counter.  Browsing her makeup is like a child in a candy store for me.  I just gotta have it all!  I was originally drawn to the brand, because her foundations have a yellow base, instead of pink.  I love all her books, follow on twitter and subscribe on Youtube.  Her looks on the runways blow me away.  She has a great eye and I love that her makeup gives woman a natural and healthy look.  This makes Bobbi Brown my favorite cosmetic line.

I have tried BB foundations in the past and but the formulation was sheer.  Natural (I LOVE) but sheer.  I needed to find something with more coverage for my hyperpigmentation & hypopigmentation.  As I am looking at the display, I see the foundation stick.  It is a cream foundation and offer's high coverage.  This foundation can be hard to blend with foundation brushes though.  I prefer fingers, so I can warm the product up and blend.  The BB associate tested a color on me and voila PERFECT match.  Blend, blend, blend.  Just the right amount of yellow undertones (but a little on the orange side).  My shade is "Golden".  The foundation looks natural, a bit shiny, great coverage, not too heavy, has not broken me out, and is almost perfect.  Bobbi Brown please make a light golden shade!  Golden is a tad too orange and oxidizes, honey is too light and warm almond is strange on my skin.

The foundation does seem to slip off my skin though, so make sure to set it with a powder.  This foundation is not meant for very oily skin and is great for dry skin & normal skin.  I look forward to trying her powders & bronzers next!
