Gorgeous Skin! Jennifer Lawrence

I just returned from watching The Hunger Games and I could not help but notice how amazing Jennifer Lawrence's skin is!  I have seen her in X-Men: First Class and Like Crazy, but did not watch these movies in theaters.  Her skin on the big screen was just amazing.  It was a great movie (and the perfect role for her by the way), I definitely look forward to the next film!

For You Curly & Short Hair Gals

My hair is growing fast and is hitting 6 inches of length on top.  It's at a awkward length and I have been going back and forth between letting it grow more and just cropping it again.  I am super low maintenance with my hair and love the look of short hair.  I also want to switch it up and have my Tracee Ellis Ross hair again.  Maybe I will try a wig??  Here are a few looks that I'm interested in and might inspire YOU. =)

Darjeeling Limited anyone?  I hope to see the lovely Amara in more films.  Such beautiful skin!

Turn Back the Clock OR Zap Blemishes with Tanda Light Therapy

LED (Light Emitting Diode) has become a staple in day spa treatments.  Tanda allows you to get quick and effective results right at home.  Red light therapy for anti-aging and blue for fading and healing blemishes in less than 24 hours!!  Starting at $195, this at home device will save you money instead of dropping $90 for a LED treatment at the spa.

As we age our skins ability to regenerate slows down, making skin appear dull, rough, red, with more pronounced fine lines and wrinkles.  Tanda Luxe (Red light) improves and boosts cellular energy, increases circulation, increases production of collagen and elastin.  This technology works on skin from the inside out, allowing skin the opportunity to look and feel younger & rejuvenated.  Firm, plump, fight dull skin, fine lines, wrinkles, and moisturize dry skin for younger glowing skin.

Blue light for acne treatment is also available in the Tanda Clear $195 and, or Zap $49.  Sonic Vibrations reduce swelling and inflammation, while warming from light energy opens pores and permitting blue light to reach bacteria deep in pores.  This combination fade blemishes in less then 24 hours! Blue light therapy works by producing oxygen, killing p.acnes (acne bacteria) immediately.

  • Fast & effective treatment of fine lines & wrinkles in 2 treatments a week.
  • 6000 uses with 3 minute treatments.
  • No cartridges, batteries, or chemicals.
  • Cordless & rechargable.
  • Clinical proven results & Dermatologist recommended.
  • FDA cleared & Health Canada approved.
  • Interchangeable heads, switch Tanda Luxe & Tanda Clear Systems.

Trying out Vitamin E oil as a Moisturizer

"The Spring Valley Vitamin E Skin Oil 12000 IU is an excellent moisturizer which keeps your skin supple and healthy. It also softens your rough skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles present in your skin. The Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant which prevents formation of free radicals on your skin cells. The skin burn moisturizer prevents water loss from your skin and restores the normal oil balance of the skin. You can apply the vitamin E oil in your skin directly or can be soaked in a bathtub to be used as a massage."-Spring Valley

I know this sounds weird for someone with oily skin, but it has really improved my skin.  My skin was dehydrated from acne products.  I picked up the oil at Grocery outlet for $1.99 and didn't bother reading the label.  After applying this oil, I noticed it also contained coconut oil & soybean oil.  I almost had a panic attack, but I thought I'd leave in on and see what happens.  The oil seemed to work with my skin, left my skin moisturized.  I previously tried applying Vitamin E capsules directly on my skin- I broke out AND had a allergic reaction.  Everyones skin is different, treating acne can have unpredictable outcomes

Over the years, my skin has become less oily with age.  During middle school, high school and college my skin was a greasy mess.  You could fry a egg on it.  My acne was hormonal and inflamed.  Now my skin has calmed down, but I do deal with congestion and breakouts.

What to Know about Spring Valley Vitamin E Oil
  • Moisturizes and balances my skin.
  • Improves the appearance of acne marks (hyper pigmentation).
  • Not a greasy oil, but light.
  • Great for face, body and hair.
Bottom line: As a skincare professional I do not suggest using Vitamin E topically (directly on skin) it is highly comedogenic(pore clogging).  It is thought to heal scars effectively, but if you are acne prone this is a big NO NO.  I use this only my my feet, elbows, knees.

Beauty of The Day: Veronica Webb

The very first African-American to have a major cosmetic contract (Revlon) and she has appeared on the covers of Vogue, ELLE and Essence.  She also frequently works with makeup extraordinaire Sam Fine.  She, like myself, prefers a natural makeup look and even goes without foundation.  Veronica Webb is 47 and her skin looks better then most woman in their 20's.  This womens rocks. Thats all.

This is what 47 looks like!

St.Ives Blemish & Blackhead Control Apricot Scrub

Acne is unpredictable...my skin is unpredictable.  I was looking at photo's from 7 years ago and my skin looked pretty good, so I thought back to what products I was using.  I was using St. Ives Blemish Scrub and Proactiv.  The Proactiv was drying on my skin (works okaywith CeraVe or Cetaphil), and I loved St. Ives.  I discontinued use, because I simply could not afford the system at that time.  I stopped using St. Ives, because I learned through my skin care research, that products with thick shell granules can create micro tears in skin.  I have been back and forth with this idea and have come to a conclusion: DO NOT USE THIS SCRUB.  I'm serious.  A glycol, lactic, malic acid will be more effective and gentle on your skin.  The apricot shells create micro tears in skin, causing irritation and slower healing of skin.  You don't want to be scratching your face.  This is the worst thing you could use on skin, as well as Neutragena products (especially acne prone). Try Murad Exfoliating Mask, Murad T-Zone Pore Refining Gel (normal/dry/combo skin), Murad Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel (acne prone skin/VERY oil skin) instead or a gentle Glycolic peel.

Origins Super Spot Remover is my new go to Spot Treatment!

Finally a spot treatment that is affordable and works quickly, effectively and doesn't burn a hole through my skin!  I have been a fan of Origins for some time now and read a ton of rave reviews about this product.  At $13.50, I figured I'd give it a shot.  It is a small bottle 0.3 oz, but it lasts well through 4 months and even up to a year.  It all depends on how often you use this 1.5 % salicylic acid treatment.

"Red PMS pimple? Bad joke breakout? Heal, fight and fade it fast. Just dab on a dot and feel blemish-busting Salicylic Acid instantly help speed healing while anti-spot technology helps visibly correct post pimple darkening. Skin-calming Caffeine and Red Algae help visibly relieve irritating redness. And to help keep skin looking spotless, super exfoliators eliminate excess oils and pore-clogging debris."-Origins

  • Salicylic Acid promotes the shedding of dead skin cells that would otherwise block pores and cause pimples.
  • Exfoliates, shrinks and dries inflamed pimples over night!!!
  • Reduces redness with Caffeine & Red Algae.
  • Formulated without Parabens, Sulfates, Synthetic fragrance, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, phthalates, gmo's, and triclosan.
  • Great for face, chest and back acne.
  • Forms a coating/film on blemish.
  • Pleasant smell.
  • Product may sting.
  • Tip: Do not apply to popped pimples it will burn.

Bottom line: Origins really delivers with this product, so pick it up sooner then later.
